That's the difference between Mizzou & NC State....

and why one has multiple Natties and half a dozen Final Fours, while the other has ZERO.
It's not because it's easier to win there, it's because NC State has *smarter admins* with higher expectations.
Keatts won the ACC and reached the Final Four – something Mizzou has NEVER accomplished — and NC State fired his ass less than a year later. Keatts buyout was only $7M even after the ACC championship and Final Four run.
Can you imagine if Keatts had done that at Mizzou?!!... He'd have a lifetime contract and 20-foot statue outside of Mizzou Arena by now.
Hell, we gave Gates $25M *guaranteed* through 2029, after getting blown out by Princeton in the 2nd round. And in typical Mizzou fashion, Gates went 0-19 the following season. His conference winning percentage is .381 after 3 seasons (by comparison, Haith was .640 during his 3-year tenure).
One thing is for sure: Mizzou would never fire a coach like Keatts after reaching the Final Four, nor would it hire a coach like Will Wade (or Bruce Pearl, or Chris Beard... too much baggage, not enough melanin).
