One advantage of hiring her in the short term is that she can start recruiting both potential transfers and high schoolers right away, unlike having to wait on a coach or assistant coach tied up with post-season games.
She comes in with a lot of name recognition so that should help. Getting a good first class of transfers, plus some quality high school recruits is critical.
Another benefit of having a new head coach right away is holding more of the current players. If the announcement had dragged on there would have been more chance of current players leaving. I still expect at least one or two will leave.
