than an afterthought for the University at this point. Nothing good is going to happen until the University decides they want to be more than just a schedule filler for the rest of the SEC.
Providing that happens, the question becomes, what strategy do they take to make a difference? Do we need better performance first before investing in facilities or do we go hog wild on new facilities, give the appearance that we care, and use that to draw coaches and players?
IMO, it all starts with coaching but we also need funds and approvals to move forward with new facilities. With that in place, Veatch needs to get the best possible coach our money can get and promise him legitimate changes to facilities. Let him know he’ll have a say in those facilities and that the University will do what they can to promote baseball both on campus but in the community as well. Need to get some key sponsors lined up as well.
I would hate to see us give up on baseball considering the history we have. But the SEC is a beast in baseball and those people take it seriously. One thing we all know for sure, is making a half a$$ed coaching decision, with little to no support from the university and community, while playing in facilities that are substandard to many high end high school programs is the perfect recipe for what we see today.
