Go ahead and hire Cunningham and spend another 5 yrs being irrelevant before you hire the next coach. Her personality is not going to get anybody excited about WBB at Mizzou. I’d rather gamble on a young and rising star or a Mittie or Harper that are better fits for Mizzou and the SEC.
Cunningham feels boring and uninspired that is only on the radar because she is currently in-state. She is almost 50 and made one NCAA tourney at VCU. Maybe she makes one at MO State. Haven’t seen her name on anybody else’s list except for Arky but hardly their first choice. And she’s only on their list because she’s up the road. Frankly, she doesn’t feel like an SEC fit at all. Her own alma mater that she was an assistant coach at bypassed her for their job. Neither Duke or Notre Dame experience translate to trying to win at Mizzou. Totally different recruiting pool for the most part.
Might as well have kept Pingeton if this is where MU is going and just gave the savings to softball or volleyball. She was more exciting than Cunningham coming out of Illinois State back in the day. And did Cunningham ever beat Pingeton like her predecessors? I just hope you are advocating for her on your behalf and not trying to warm Mizzou up to the idea because of insider status. God help me if this is the choice.
