O'toole is a generational great. On top of being an outstanding wrestler, he is a great student and person. Mizzou is very lucky to have him.
Going forward, I think it is going to be hard to get back to a top 5 national program. In the Big 12, Oklahoma State pulled ahead for the foreseeable future with the David Taylor hire and Northern Iowa and Iowa State have taken advantage of Iowa being on somewhat of a downturn. Probably not going to overtake those three soon. Plus, in general, the Big 10 is the dominant wrestling conference.
Surtin and Elam"s injuries this year definitely hurt. They are developing guys like Cam Steed but I do not think they have mutliple time championship contenders in the pipeline. Getting guys with Missouri ties like Messenbrink and Lilledahl might have been a program changer but nobody is on Penn State's level right now.
