The good old days of playing ku in men's league.

My old men's league team in KC had a former NHL draft pick on it, we'll call him Shorsey, and he didn't like certain things on the ice. ku kid does one of those things and get a facewash for it. Kid can't leave well enough alone starts running his mouth as they are both sent to the penalty box. The chirping continues through the scorekeepers box as play resumes. The kid has found one of the things Shorsey doesn't liked to be called, call it a slur. Shorsey leaves our penalty box and goes to the ku box. There are two ku players in there but one wants nothing to do with this smoke. Shorsey pins the door with his skate while feeding the kid some nice rights. Shorsey let's the refs in and they send the kid to the ku bench and eject Shorsey from the game. Shorsey heads to the tunnel. We finish the game, a win, and walk into our locker room to find a huge pile of shoes in the middle of the locker room. Shorsey had gone to the ku locker room and taken all the shoes he could find and brought them to our room. He wanted more of that kid. We thought it a bit hilarious but also a nice note on Shorsey's state of mind. Two minutes later, still in his gear, the ku captain comes over and wants the shoes, Shorsey says no chance. To get your shoes each player must come to our locker room and can only claim his own shoes. The ku captain relents and that's how it goes, for about an hour. It's well past midnight by now, but almost everyone has cleared out expect for me, a buddy, Shorsey, and 3 ku players, judging by the 6 shoes left. We've got a few beers left and can't leave the story yet. In walks the ku captain, one of their defensemen, and the kid, who was obviously bleeding earlier. Shorsey chews his ass all the way through the tunnels, out the lobby and parking lot to his car but no more punches were thrown. Was impressive how a team of about fifteen early 20's men allowed a 35 year old to intimidate them to that extent. One of my favorite ku hockey stories to tell.
