Efforts of the allies since WWII has enabled the world to go for a pretty good haul without larger states "just taking" smaller ones. This has been in large part due to the UN and trade. Only exception I can think of is Israel's illegal occupations and theft of Palestinian land. That is a real horror show in itself.

Abandoning the idea that "you just can't take it" is Trump's play and proof of his aligning himself and temporarily this country with the oppressive states of Russia, China and Iran.
