US continues providing just enough aid for them not to lose (continue what we are doing), US loses billions more, lots of death continues, and we don't really get anywhere - bad option.
US fully backs them with money and arms and it leads to WWIII - bad option,
US says enough and pulls aid back, Ukraine gets slaughtered - bad option.
We work to negotiate the best possible out to stop needless killing, destruction, and wasting billions - best option.
In the real world there is often not a perfect option. There are bad people out there. Really bad. And at times you take the hand as it's dealt and play the best strategy you can.
