Only thing that makes me feel any optimism is it is a relatively young squad. But they have to develop the hitting and the pitching doesn’t feel particularly deep at all. McCann will have to become a stud and they will be relying on a frosh pitcher to excel out the gate next year. I don’t see a .500 SEC season at all this season. They made the tourney going 7-17 in the SEC a few seasons ago so simply being in the SEC inflates a sense of accomplishment. Frankly, team doesn’t feel like it has any hitters the quality of say a Wilmes, Honnold or Laird. Crenshaw is the closest but she is gone after this year. Who gives you confidence they are going to emerge beyond a few ladies who can hit dingers on occasion? They feel like future Daly’s who have power but aren’t going to hit for average. Doesn’t feel the future is going to be awesome. But maybe they develop under Cottrill? Bottom line to me, is there is work to be done everywhere in the program.
