colleges to play their basketball games on a stage within an auditorium. Before Allen Fieldhouse was opened in 1955, ku played its basketball games in a multi-purpose building called Hoch Auditorium that had about the same number of seats as old Brewer Fieldhouse.
From 1927-1955, ku played its games there, first on the stage that was designed to accommodate a court. Later, the basketball court was moved off the stage and parallel to it, with bleachers set up on the stage for additional seats.
It was supposed to be a temporary measure until the state came up with funds to open an indoor sports arena—which didn’t happen until 1955.
