The 1990 team wasn’t deep enough, plus Lee Coward broke his hand near the end of the regular season. That team was done during the Big 8 tourney.

The 1989 team was one of Stewart deepest ever. The were a machine until Norm left the team dealing with cancer. That team lost to Syracuse in the sweet 16, and woulb’ve played Illinois in the elite 8. They had narrowly lost to both of those teams earlier in the year. Had Norm been on the bunch most think MU makes that Final Four, because Stewart had a great reputation for making adjustments and not losing to the same team twice in one season.
