There is no money

I don't know why people don't understand this. This money doesn't exist. The federal budget deficit is just under $2 trillion. Let's say DOGE cuts $1 trillion (which they won't get to in one year). There is still a budget deficit of $1 trillion for the current fiscal year! To "give" this money back they will have to borrow it and increase the budget deficit. There is no other way to do it. Now maybe, if DOGE cut over $2 trillion, you could talk about giving some of it back vs paying down the debt, but that's a fictional discussion at this point.

Let's put this in perspective with more reasonable numbers people can understand based on a home budget. Let's say you make $150k/yr. You spend $205k/yr on your house payments and other expenses. You have to borrow the other $55k from the bank (although I can't imagine why they would agree to lend you money for that purpose). That's what the federal budget looks like right now, except you also already owe the bank almost $1.1 million.

So you decide to cut $25k from you budget. Would you give $5k of that away? You're f*cking bankrupt! You can't be giving $5k away that you have to borrow from the bank! This is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.
