powerless. At the state and local levels, with a few exceptions, the unions are a complete afterthought. In my current building I do not know of a single NEA member, I'm sure they are here but we never hear from them. The only time I am aware of the NEA is when contract negotiation rolls around and we get some emails informing us of the progress.
In theory, the NEA is a professional organization, not a union. The AFT with Rani Weingarten is an actual union.
