Let's say a man takes his wife and two kids to Indianapolis to watch Caitlin Clark. which requires us to suspend logic and assume that every incremental attendee is both a family, and from out of town He arrives into town and fills up his tank so he can drive home after the game. again requires a suspension of logic and assumes that not only do all incremental attendees travel in from out of town, but they all arrive with no gas That's 40 bucks. He takes his family to a mid priced family restaurant before the game- that's 100 bucks with tip. another assumption that contradicts logic Tickets to the game @ 234 bucks a ticket another false assumption = 936 bucks. 234 x 4 does in fact = 936. you got one thing right in this paragraph. good job
Sodas at the game = (I dunno but) 24 bucks. assumes every person in attendance buys $6 drinks The kids want Clark Jerseys (please dad please) 195 bucks for two. dramatic eye roll
That's 1295 bucks (the loan he took out in Columbus for this family night -via his credit card is not credited
to Indianapolis). let's pause here... you think a family of 4 is paying $1,295 to go to a WNBA game. let that sink in for a few moments before proceeding.
Now multiply that by the standard economic spread of a dollar spent. and here's where we start to ignore math and instead just apply arbitrary multipliers to our already flawed logic It used to be considered 7.This article claims its only 1.54http://www.ihl.state.ms.us/urc/downloads/articles/EconomicImpactMultiplierIsNotSeven-June2007.pdf Personally I find the 1.54 suspect, but let's use that figure.
That is 1944 bucks brought into the Indianapolis economy. Now it takes17,552 additional families or 70,208 people to reach 35 million. you're off by close to a million but keep going. That's 25% of the increased attendance her team has experienced. 25% of the increased total attendance would be closer to 65K but again, keep going Or more or less 25% of the increased attendance is from outside the Indy metro area. another suspension of logic But wait probably less since some percentage of families may spend a night or two ,do more stuff , and spend more bucks. ok now we're really suspending logic
Now of course I said that's what she had to bring in to reach 35 million, not that she does, Does that reach that- at the 1.54 figure -maybe not but it's reasonably close. At the 7 multiplier effect- probably so. Viola standard economics and math. what you just laid out was a suspension of logic and a series of arbitrary forced multiples to try and support your faulty logic
Note : other than the tickets the other prices are a reasonable guess (or at least reasonable as to what is actually charged).
thank you for taking the time to prove my point. i know your time on here tends to be very limited.
