Imagine this nightmare scenario…

We beat Arky on the road (which is a given, they may be the worst SEC team I’ve seen in the 15 years we’ve been here).
Then we upset either Oklahoma, Kentucky or Vandy at home. And finish 4-12 in conference play.
Pingeton goes in and sells Veatch (who may not care one way or another about the success of WBB here) that the program is just about to break through, citing a 3-3 conference record to close the season, and pointing to strong performances in losses to Texas, LSU and Tennessee.
And Veatch, ignoring the fact that two straight recruiting years have been utterly wasted with an assumed lame duck coach without a contract extension, buys her pitch, and gives her another two years to prove she can get the program back to the NCAA tournament.
Far fetched? Probably. But I guarantee stranger things have happened in sports, at all levels.
