There can be a religion with out a God. A religion is defined as "What is Sacred? What one depends on" peopl have depended on many things throughout history which became a religion to them. Nationlism is a religion. we have holidays we have an anthem and a pledge of allegience and many other things that take the place of a religion (symbols) The problem is that people only want to disavow a belief in a God. There really have not been wars because of a God based religion. It has usually been a power struggle over something and they have used God to rally the troops.
