That would be extremely DUMB for multiple reasons...

(1) Gates already has an obscenely high buyout that no other school would be willing to pay to free him from his current contract. So increasing the buyout any further would only hurt Mizzou.
(2) Gates just had an 0-19 season, and it's not like he suddenly learned how to coach. The difference is that our boosters (out of desperation) splurged and bought him the deepest roster that MUBB has ever had.
We have a Top 5 roster but only a #23 Kenpom ranking and that's because of coaching. This is Gates' ceiling. He's never going to get a better roster than this.
But yeah, let's give him an unnecessary raise & extension so the buyout is so high we're stuck with him for another decade the next time he goes 0-19. Brilliant.
