We entered the game in Lawrence ranked #3 nationally, and proceeded to establish our dominance before absurd officiating allowed ku to come back and win a farce of a game. MU won all the rest of their remaining games that season as well as the Big 12 championship, while the two teams ahead of them in the rankings both lost.

So MU would have been the #1 overall seed at selection time had things been allowed to play out naturally in Lawrence
