I keep seeing Mitchell described this way, but it doesn't fit. He isn't a threat past 5 feet, and defenders can sit back on him when he is away from the basket, making it hard for him to drive around them.
Kobe becoming a threat to score away from the basket made him that much more effective when driving to the basket. He wasn't a big leaper, but he was able to get enough space to get his shot off. Mitchell often doesn't get a a clean shot when he drives because his defender is able to stay in between him and the basket. I would argue that Trent Pierce is closer to guard/forward than Mitchell.
