Tigers took on the top team in the sec tonight in Norman. It was an up and down meet for the tigers as they fell to the Sooners with a season high 196.75 just edging their previous 196.7 from the season opener. A lot of discussion in the world of gymnastics regarding a focus on tightening scoring and taking more deductions so I’m hesitant to make comparisons to last years scores.
Overall it was an up and down meet. The vault rotation improved highlighted by a monster vault from joscelyn Moore earning a 9.975. The bars rotation had been solid the first two weeks but faultered tonight despite a lovely 9.9 from their anchor. Floor was a big disappointment as it’s generally extremely strong but a fall and a lot of bouncing it just wasn’t their night. Beam remained more solid than last year but is just not strong enough overall. The beam anchor Helen Hu finally earned her first perfect 10. She is pure joy to watch on beam if you love gymnastics.
As usual Oklahoma seemed to homer a few head scratching scores and we had a few that seemed low in comparison I think we’re going to have to see after a few more weeks of scoring how things go.
