If, and only if, we are going to go hard for Harper, who I would take in a heartbeat right now.
Pingeton has zero incentive to be recruiting now, knowing she will be gone at the end of the season (not that her recruiting is any strong point in the first place), and no decent player has any incentive whatsoever considering whether to come to Missouri not knowing what coach they will be playing for.
And if we wait for the new coach to come on in March/April it will be too late to impact recruiting. Portal additions might be impacted differently, but still, why not bring Harper in now and let her get a leg up on recruiting and running the program and getting to know the players, and vice versa.
If Harper is the top choice Veatch is just throwing away another season and making the next coaches job and the rebuild that much harder by not replacing Pingeton with Harper right now. Yeah, we’d still owe Pingeton the rest of her contract, but so what?
