attention. He has not been demoted in any way, he's just not getting any favor at this point. He should be playing more because he is a high potential freshman, BUT he needs to be getting those few minutes in a developmental role only and this team has no room for anybody to get developmental minutes because there are too many guys on the team. His talent is in attacking the basket, not shooting from outside. We don't really need a young guy to do that this year. If this team was a 5-6 man rotation of older guys, he'd be out there in a 7 or 8th man role and, I bet, as the season wore on, he'd look solid for a frosh...doing what he does.
Crews should not be in the rotation. He is THE biggest disappointment of the season. He was expected to be a sniper from 3 and it was hoped that he could do other things that lessened the need for minutes from other limited players. He basically offers nothing. He is terrible at everything else and has only shot the ball "well" twice all season...against dogs. I would not put him in again this year unless we have a game where everybody else is ice cold and we are desperate for anybody to hit a 3.
In recent games, our best lineup has been 1 PG, 1 wing, and 3 combo forwards (Mitch, Pierce, Shaw, Crews in one game). We'll need Gray's beef in the SEC but it sure would be nice if we could play D and rebound without him...and his rebounding has been a disappointment.
The main rotation should be:
Robinson - Perkins on Point
Bates - Grill - Perkins on Wing
Mitchell - Pierce - Shaw at Forward
Gray at Center
The supplemental guys should be:
Warrick when we need him
Barrett & Boateng when we don't "need" Warrick
Allen when we can find him some time or foul trouble
Marshall when we can find him some time or foul trouble
What this means is that in tight games, the rotation should be tightened up to 9 guys with maybe a hint of a 10th.
But in games when the opportunity arises, Warrick should be cut back/out and the other top guys should be cut back to get the young guys some developmental time.
