In Roman times the gladiators deserved their fate, as did the Christians, supposedly.
Until the more sane portion of the population woke up, and I don't mean 'woke' by any stretch, but woke in the sense of common sense.
The music industry also demanded ten albums and everything the artist produced and so on.
Just because 'everybody agrees' doesn't make something sane or correct.
If a person produces something of extraordinary value they should receive extraordinary value in return - when that doesn't happen and someone else takes the money, it's called exploitation.
Time to grow up.
