We would prepare all week for the game against ku with the mindset you had to be 10 points better than them at home or 15 points better than them at their place. Otherwise when you start getting ripped off and ridiculous things start happening against you it causes you to be flustered. If you know it’s coming and you are only 8 points better than them on a given day you know that’s not good enough.

He said that was really a key reason in the mid to late 90s that MU was nearly the only conference team that beat ku, because everyone else melted down and expected to get a fairly called game. Norm instilled the mental toughness to know you were going to be cheated out of a victory, not be shaken by it, and overcome.

That was a long time ago though. I fully expect our players to get flustered thinking it should be a fairly called game and level playing field.
