Now 10-3 for the tournament.
Mizzou (with the biggest upset by far in the tournament), Texas and Kentucky all advance to the sweet 16, with the latter two having solid wins over dangerous 6 seeds USC and Minnesota, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.
In the other 2nd round match, Ole Miss, who had a tremendous tournament, was an eyelash away from a 2-0 lead on 2 seed Creighton, taking it to them and barely losing the first two sets 28-26 and 27-25. After that they were gassed and blown out in set 3, but still a great effort against a vastly superior team.
Then in first round matches Friday SEC teams went 3-0:
8 seed Oklahoma pulled off the reverse sweep against UTEP, winning in 5 sets.
6 seed Florida easily took down NC State 18, 21, and 13 in a 3-0 win.
6 seed TAMU had a tough match with Colorado St, winning 3-1 by taking the last two sets 29-27 and 25-13.
On Saturday Florida, TAMU and Oklahoma try to join Missouri, Texas and Kentucky in the sweet 16. Oklahoma has no shot, facing overall #1 seed Pitt. But it wouldn’t shock me to see either Florida or TAMU pull off upsets against 3 seeds Kansas and Arizona St, respectively. Would be great to see 4 teams from the SEC in the sweet 16, and amazing to see 5 perhaps, after only 2 teams were seeded to get there.
