I have posted a number of these updates over the years and continue where I left off, by tracking the top ten Missouri High School recruits for 2022. For the purposes of this exercise, I do not include players from Link Academy in Branson (where almost all of the top recruits played) unless they were actually from Missouri originally.
1. Tarris Reed. 6-10 C. Branson (Link Academy) via St. Louis (Chaminade)
4-star, #35 player nationally was heavily recruited by Mizzou but chose Michigan. Averaged 3.4 ppg and 3.9 rpg as a freshman, then emerged as a starter for the Wolverines last year with 9.0 ppg and 7.2 rpg. Transferred to UConn this season and is a starter for the Huskies with 10.9 ppg and 8.6 rpg.
2. Jevon Porter. 6-11 PF. Columbia (Father Tolton)
The latest in the long lineage of Porters was a borderline top-100 recruit and signed with Pepperdine, which was coached by long-time family mentor Lorenzo Romar. Burst onto the scene as an All-WCC newcomer with 12.1 ppg and 7.2 rpg. Battled injuries as a sophomore but posted an impressive 16.2 ppg and 9.9 rpg in 21 games as a sophomore. After Romar was fired at Pepperdine and hired as assistant coach at Loyola-Marymount, Porter followed him and is posting 14.8 ppg and 8.0 rpg this season.
3. Larry Hughes Jr. 6-4 SG. St. Louis (CBC)
Son of former SLU great and NBA player, followed family footsteps to the Billikens. Three-star prospect posted 2.5 ppg and 1.1 rpg his first season then 7.4 ppg and 2.7 rpg last year. Currently coming off the bench this season with 4.7 ppg and 2.1 rpg.
