He didn’t refrain from doing so, he tried and was so stupid he couldn’t figure it out and everyone ignored him as a non serious person. That isn’t the same thing as not doing it.

He didn’t execute a coup either. But he sure tried as hard as he could, it was just a comically inept failure.
