First round match on Thursday at 4pm has us taking on Texas St.
They are 22-8 on the season, and won the Sun Belt conference tournament without losing a set.
Their RPI rank is 54, their KPI rank is 38, one of a handful of teams with a fairly significant difference between RPI and KPI in either direction.
Only one common opponent I can see, that was TAMU, who they were swept by 13, 24, and 19.
They have no wins against top 50 RPI teams, went 0-1 against 1-25 (TAMU), and 0-4 against 26-50.
Still, a team we could lose to if we don’t bring our A game (or at least A-/B+). An opportunity to upset SMU and reach the sweet 16 would be a great challenge for us. But first need to come to play on Thursday.
