Strength coach for 35 years. He built Nebraska farm boys into superheroes at a time when strength training was not an emphasis. Devine didn’t really believe in weightlifting. I was in the athletic training room often in 63-65 working on my arm as a baseball pitcher and seldom saw any football players in there. The weight room back then wouldn’t make a decent small high school weight room today. Devine’s line in 63 weighed less than 200 lb. On average. Epley made 260+ pound linemen a thing.
