Instead of getting the ball rolling on this last year and having a legitimate primary, they thought they could get away with another Biden in the basement campaign and 4 more years of Weekend at Bernie's.
When it became painfully obvious it wasn't going to work anymore, they used the debate as a "no choice, have to move on" and had no options outside of Harris so they went all in on her.
Once the honeymoon of someone other than Joe wore off, they were left with.........well.......Harris. Then the list above came into play.

WAY too late trying to get her out in public and explain her positions. Media covered for her, which ended up backfiring. In a panic move, sat down with Bret Baier and other media outlets which I think made things worse. I bet if you asked someone who is honest and self aware who is in or close to her camp, they likely knew they were cooked weeks ago.
