For the record, I think human-centric climate change is a real thing and we need to do whatever we can to slow it down, if possible.

That said, these hurricanes are not necessarily evidence of it. There is no indication of an increase in frequency of hurricanes over the last 100 years and neither of these are the strongest we've seen even in our lifetimes.

In regards to severity, meteorologists believe that storms are "more likely" to be more severe due to climate change, but there isn't a clear track record on that, yet. The damage is worse because there is more stuff and people to damage.
