If the margin of polling error for NY is off by as much, then he could legit win it.

States have a much larger polling error rate for some reason.

It also helps down ballot GOP candidates.

Reports are that both Trump and Harris show internal polling that Trump is going to take the Electoral College.. so the only question is how will the GOP do down ticket and what will the popular vote look like?

Democrats put much stock into the popular vote, even though its meaningless. So it would be nice to win a mandate. EC victory, popular vote victory, house and senate victory.

Obviously, Trump feels very good about where he currently stands or wouldn't be going to California and New York - the bluest or blue states.
