from starting a volunteer after-school tutoring program. The program was to be created by teachers and run by teachers willing to give some of their time to freely help students. The union thought this set a bad precedent since we were not going to get paid to do it.
Myself and about eight others resigned from the union the next morning and I have never been a member of a teachers union since. That was 33 years ago.
People need to remember unions serve the workers, not the good of the product and not the good of the company. If it helps the workers in the short term while damaging the company in the long term the unions do not care.
