became manager, there was initially a lot of WTF from many Cardinals fans. Another in house guy. But over time, he won fans over...because they won.
Something happened between him and the front office and it was never made clear what it was about. There were various rumors about philosophical differences but on the day it was announced he had been fired Mozeliak looked pretty ****ed off.
He was definitely not fired because of his record on the field.
I think part of the deal with being the Cardinals manager, which is dumb, is you have to either be a HOF level guy (LaRussa) or a FO patsy (Marmol). Shildt wasn't either and so I think that's why he was ****canned.
He's a good man and I'm happy as hell he's found success in San Diego. Not surprising.
Incidentally, this is what the Cardinals need to jettison, this belle at the ball embrace of the "Cardinal Way" which is some modern day baseball jedi horse ****.
It's 2024. Don't rest on your laurels. Modernize and then stay ahead of the game.
