me with a living.

Government's job is to protect the citizenry and provide services like schools, law enforcement, the military, etc.

Taxes are paid to cover those costs by citizens.

My only reliance on government is to protect the system which allows me to flourish in making a great living for myself and my family.

But never before in our history has the President been lauded / blamed for the economy more than in modern times, which coincides at a time when the global economy has never been more diversified with new competition (in addition to strengthened old competition) and cheap labor.

As opposed to most here, I think a strong central bank is crucial to keeping the economy in balance. In fact, you can argue that the American Fed is better than any bank in the world at doing this. This has, to my mind, been proven clearly since (first) their response to the Great Recession in 2008 and then, more recently, to their amazing balancing act with respect to interest rates to tamp down inflation without a recession.
