The Big10 and SEC risk destroying college football

If these two conferences think because they're the last two standing they can just separate themselves from the rest of the college football world and do their own thing they will soon hit reality in a bad way.

College football is what it is, the money and all, because it is a truly national sport. Iowa state fans, Memphis fans, Washington state fans, and so on.... from all over the country watch the big games on any give weekend because they see their schools as part of the general sport. That generates tremendous ratings and wealth for the major conferences, but only if all those minor schools see themselves as part of the picture.

If it ever turns out that it's basically a game of SEC and Big10 and everyone else doesn't matter, watch out for fallout in ratings. A big chunk of college football fans will simply not care.

The SEC and Big10 would suffer, and it would probably be too late to do anything about it.
