NIL is being paid for your name, image and likeness.
If paying Luther Burden to sign autographs at a car dealership gets foot traffic and potential customers on the lot, it has value. How much is that value, it depends. Likely it is worth how much it increases sales of cars.
Putting Burden’s image on a bag of chips: if the chip maker pays Burden to use his image on the bags, then the chip company sees an increase of chip sales, it has value.
Dumping money into a collective to pay players with no expectation of using their name image and likeness to see a return on investment (increase in sales) is simply pay for play.
Does the UNLV QB’s name, image, or likeness have any value to any companies?
