of his crowd. Why is it so different today than it was 50 years ago? We drove our cars and pickup trucks to school and didn't lock them. Many didn't bother to pull the keys. Some of the pickups had rifles hanging on the gun racks. No one was threatened and school administrators and teachers weren't alarmed. It was a small, class 1A Missouri rural school. Grades 1 through 12 all in the same building complex. We were all white, mostly protestant and our families had resided in the community for several generations. Why didn't we experience crime and violence at school?
