helping them win the most games, qualify for bowls or the playoffs may not be the ideal schedule for fans wanting to attend the games, or for the hotels, restaurants and others in Columbia.

It seems to me that an ideal schedule from the perspective of optimizing team performance, rankings and so on is probably to have some relatively easy home games the first 3 or 4 weeks so that they can evaluate the new players & progress of returning players and how well they mesh together &/or adjust to any new coaches and their styles of play. It lets them get the kinks out, much like the pros do with their preseason games.

That is obviously less than ideal for fans having to travel long distance to home games.
