They know that communism/socialism truly sucks for everyone but the elite.
That's their delusion, that they will be among the exalted and get to rule over the rest of us peasants.
Gyro, Ras, Fiji all show that over and over. So they will tell any lie none too big none to small to get there.
For a reward that will never come.
