Verse 20 is another example of Jesus’ popularity. Whenever people become aware that you are able to help them, you are likely to find that you will have more people who need help than you can handle. It was so serious of a problem for Jesus and His disciples that they weren’t even able to take the time to eat every meal. But the popularity attracted adverse criticism from Jesus’ family (v. 21). Whether from envy or fear of reprisals on the family, they tried to remove Him from the crowds, saying that He had lost His mind. You will discover that there are those in the Christian world—or even your own family—who do and say similar things for various reasons. Here, this fact shows that on all fronts Jesus is beginning to receive opposition.
