maybe so. What if Georgia and Bama/Texas are already guaranteed? a 2 loss SEC team with 2 wins over ranked opponents might be more highly thought of than a 1 loss mizzou team with 0 Top 20 wins.
i mean at what point does a resume with 0-1 top 20 wins look just like a mountain west or Big 12 resume?
beating 4 absolute nobodies in the non con then beating 6 losing teams in the league could be accoomplished by 40 other programs. why would that make you a top 12 team? to me mizzou needs to beat bama or have A&M be a lot better than expected to justify their ranking. beating the bottom of the league doesnt justify the playoff
