They both acknowledged that they disagree on some things. How much emphasis to put on the environment over lowering the price of energy is probably one of those areas of disagreement. He could be hard nosed about it and be left out of any decision making in the Trump administration, or he could accept that he doesn't have the power to force his will upon Trump on that issue.
But he can have great influence over transparency in the government bureaucracies and how they are run. Trump has promised him control over investigating things like the assassinations of his uncle, John F. Kennedy, his father, Robert F. Kennedy, and of the assassination attempt(s) on Trump. He can also have great influence over undue/improper corporate influence over the agencies that are allegedly overseeing them. He's also going to have a lot of influence in looking into vaccines and possible vaccine injuries, possible contamination or degradation of food and medicine and so on.
He will do the most good that he can. Keeping Commie Kamala out of office would be a great good in itself.
