agreements by the US & NATO. He had given multiple warnings to the West and to Ukraine prior to the invasion. Per Col. Macgregor, he thought he could show that he was serious by sending a relatively small contingent into Ukraine, hoping that everyone would then sit down and negotiate fairly.
But the US was grinning from ear to ear. The US *wanted* him to invade, make him look like the bad guy, try out a bunch of their weapons, get rid of old stockpiles, make billions, enrich their allies in the military industrial complex and weaken Russia economically and militarily, a major goal of theirs.
But Russia didn't buckle, took their hits and then ramped up their war machine and their military. They have been beating the Ukrainians, who are the proxy warriors for NATO. They were trained by the US & NATO for years before the invasion, they have been given 10s of billions of $ in weaponry and cash. Sadly, their country is being devastated and their young men have been dying in horrific numbers. Millions have left the country, many/most have left permanently.
Russia has tried to negotiate multiple times. They had a tentative agreement with Ukraine to sit down at the bargaining table, but the US and NATO told them NO! Don't do it. They promised to have their backs, and the death and destruction has continued unabated and they have been losing ground ever since. Their losses in personnel are multiples of what the Russians have suffered and they simply do not have the manpower to hold off the Russians, who were a much larger nation to begin with.
