was significantly, some would say absurdly, over the current stock price at the time. Shareholders got upset, there was talk of taking the board to court over mismanagement of the company... The board offered Musk a spot on the board, which would have limited the # of shares that he could purchase as a board member. Elon refused.
More talk of lawsuits by the shareholders. News stories abounded of Twitter employees freaking out about the proposed purchase. Many claimed they would quit, the rhetoric was extreme about how bad Musk was and how bad this would be for Twitter and for the world.
The board did an abrupt about face and agreed to Musk's offer. He started doing more due diligence & tried to renegotiate the price when it became apparent that his overly generous offer was vastly above actual value given the fact that so many of the "Twitter users" and tweets were bots doing their thing on the platform.
Threats of lawsuits flourished and eventually Musk went ahead and paid full price as per his offer.
He fired a big chunk of Twitter employees and... people were amazed that it had minor impacts upon Twitter's performance.
Then the Deep State cabal went into action, news media relentlessly attacked the new Twitter and Elon Musk, warning of fake news and anti-semitism and racism and... the destruction of democracy as we know it.
Pressure was systematically put on advertisers who had been spending big on the Deep State Twitter propaganda machine and many of the biggest advertisers pulled out. AOC & other high profile users railed continuously on Twitter and Musk calling on people to leave Twitter. Many did.
The Twitter files were released showing the the Deep State, including the Executive branch under Obama's & Biden's administrations had been colluding with Twitter, Google, Facebook et al in taking down even clearly truthful posts and suspending or deleting individuals and organizations who were posting the truth when it went against the Deep State's narrative.
A lawsuit is currently pending by Musk against the cabal of advertisers telling him what content should be allowed on Twitter, now rebranded as "X".
Now a UK leader threatened social media users with extradition and prosecution if they engage in "hate speech" or "disinformation" (my rough paraphrase on the specific "crime(s)" from memory, details may vary a bit) as per UK law & interpretation, which is obviously from a far left fascist perspective.
After the Olympics, the hermaphrodite boxer who won the gold medal, sued him & J.K. Rowling, and has called for a criminal prosecution. "If the prosecutor’s office charges anyone under the statute, it could call for two to five years in prison and tens of thousands of Euros in fines."
