There currently is no path for someone who crosses illegally.

Decriminalization of illegal immigration is not an open border policy - because the primary enforcement mechanism in the INA is administrative law, not criminal law.

There are provisions that criminalize, and enforcement of those provisions under the Trump zero tolerance policy is what led to family separations and a huge public outcry that caused him to reverse course.

But you probably already knew all that. Because you know the immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed. By Congress.

Which means, as you know, worrying about Harris’ or Trump’s policy proposals on this is a waste of time. Mexico didn’t pay for a wall. Harris can’t create a path to citizenship.
