i was appointed to west point out of bishop heelan high school. i went to take my test at ft. leavenworth and was rejected because i had rheumatic fever as a kid and supposedly a heart murmur.
i graduated from sdsu, took a job with chevron, got married, and in august of '67 drafted. i told the doc at the induction center about the west point examine and he said: come over here, let me listen to your heart ... hell, there's nothing wrong with you. and off to ft. jackson i went.
september 9th, i'm at mayo clinic for an ablation procedure to deal with afib, aka heart murmur.
had i been trump or joey, i would have appealed through my connections and deferred. that's the point. i've lived this directly.
