$85,000 on a $60,000 note on which he now still carries a balance of $90,000, that that balance should be written off. Something along those lines anyway. Tax payer has little to do with it. THOUGH if tax dollars might might be used to write down or eliminate some balances to thus free up that money in the former student's life that could then be used to stimulate the economy and thus serve the greater good, I would be good with that too.
