President Joe Biden did claim that no troops died under his watch during the first 2024 presidential debate. Specifically, he stated:
“Truth is, I’m the only president this century, this decade, that doesn’t have any troops dying anywhere in the world like he did.”
However, this claim was false, as multiple incidents of US service members dying abroad during his presidency were documented, including:
* The suicide bombing at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 26, 2021, which killed 13 US service members (11 Marines, 1 Army special operations soldier, and 1 Navy corpsman).
* A January 2024 drone attack at a military base near the Syrian border in Jordan, which killed three US soldiers and injured at least 40 others.
* A January 2024 incident in which two US Navy SEALs were killed while attempting to board a ship bound for Yemen that was carrying illegal weapons.
These incidents contradict Biden’s claim that no US troops died under his watch.
