From a political perspective, Russia entirely invented Trump.

Trump was a democrat his whole life. When Russia identified him as a candidate of chaos and someone to manipulate, they astutely recognized that one party was heavily composed of religious people and the poorly educated and the elderly that would be susceptible to misinformation and propaganda. That is what created Trump and what is currently referred to as the Republican Party.

We can certainly disagree with what transpired from that point and what peoples current ulterior motives may be, but that part certainly happened as the impetus. And certainly by any normal definition of Republicans, Trump would be a valid example of a fake liberal Republican who associates with the concept in name only.
